Tubby is a female Red-Eared Slider. Red-Eared Sliders get their name because of a red marking they have on both sides of their head. Tubby is the youngest and by far the largest turtle in our tank. She weighs in at over 4 pounds. She is a little over a year old. When I bought Tubby she was so small I was afraid the other turtles in the tank might pick on her or even eat her, but she held her own even when she was a baby. Now Tubby is the boss of the turtle tank. She lives for turtle food! When ever she sees me she swims to the top of the tank and sticks her head out of the water with her mouth open waiting for me to pour food into it. All of our turtles will eat out of my hand but Tubby prefers me to pour food into her mouth until it is full! |

Swimmy is a Musk turtle. He is the smallest turtle in the tank (Musk turtles stay very small). Swimmy usually hangs out up towards the top of the tank. You can almost always find Him on the drain pipe in the upper left side of the tank. If he isn't there look real close at the bottom of the log, there is a hole in it he likes to crawl in and you will see Him sticking out of it. Swimmy will eat out my hand like all our other turtles but He prefers to eat his food off of the bottom of the tank. Swimmy looks very sweet and timid, but beware, Musk turtles can bite very hard! |

Herbert is a Painted turtle.
Painted turtles are very colorful, the underside of
Herbert is bright red and yellow. Herbert is the
friendliest turtle we have. I named him after a turtle I
had when I was a kid (Actually I named all my turtles
Herbert). Herbert was the first turtle to eat out of my
hand. He just crawled out of the water onto his log and
opened his mouth one day when I was feeding him. He likes
me to pick him up and rub him under his neck. Some turtle experts don't recommend keeping painted turtles in a mixed collection because they are susceptible to several diseases and shell infections. I haven't had any problems because I keep their water very clean and quarantine any new turtles before putting them in the tank to be sure they are disease free. |

Sammy is a False Map turtle. At two and a half He is the oldest turtle in the tank. Sammy sometimes lays on the bottom of the tank motionless for long periods of time. He looks dead when he does this and I used to knock on the side of the tank to make sure he wasn't. When he isn't playing dead you can usually find him on the log with his neck stretched out basking in the sun. |

Fred is a male Red-Eared Slider. Male Red-Eared Sliders have longer tails and front claws then females and don't get as large. Fred is full grown and as you can see is much smaller then Tubby. Fred is always very curious, He follows Tubby around all the time because he doesn't want to miss anything. Sometimes when Tubby is eating Fred puts his nose right in Tubby's face and tries to take food out of Tubby's mouth. I'm afraid one day Tubby is going to take a bite out of his nose. |
